In mode I, the winder will turn clockwise for 20 minutes and will rest for 40 minutes. The second II mode setting is for watches that require 4750 turns per day. In mode II, the winder will alternate clockwise and counterclockwise rotation every 15 seconds, then rest for 40 minutes. To find how many turns per day your watch requires, refer to your watch manual. The winder offers a gear bearing motor which makes the winder extremely "quiet." This automatic watch winder is beautiful, comes with 4 watch pillows: 2 smaller ones and 2 bigger ones although the big ones were fine for my women's watches. The item arrived promptly, about 10 days before I expected. The winder is not petite so be sure to have a place prepared for it where it will have plenty of room like your dresser or a bookcase shelf, large desk, closet shelf, etc. It's nice that you can put batteries in it in case there is no ac plug nearby. It is ultra quiet and has a blue button that tells you when it's on. (But if you like to sleep in complete darkness, you might not like the blinking blue light that shows it's on, but on standby mode). The biggest con I have found, however, is that your automatic watch must already be fully or nearly wound for the winder to keep your watch maintained in its "wound" or working mode, otherwise your watch will die even if you keep your watch winder on 24/7 with your watch(es) in it for even a couple of days. In other words, it will not wind your watch once it dies or is dead even while in the winder - you will need to shake the watch around yourself to restart it. I use to have just one automatic watch and just one previous automatic watch winder which wound one watch and I never had to worry about my watch dying if I didn't wear the watch for a few days. I'm not sure if it's because this winder is more at a flat angle than my previous one which was very slanted. Otherwise, I bought it because it is from Tech Swiss which is a name to be trusted. It is beautiful and works as needed, but be sure you check on your automatic watches (if not wearing on a regular basis), synchronize the time and/or wear your watch on a regular basis! UPDATE: I put a book 1-1/4" thick underneath the back of the watch winder so it is more slanted (I keep the winder on my bookshelf anyway). Problem solved! No more watches "dying." Went away for 10 days, came back and the watches were thoroughly taken care of. No more shaking the watch. Great and beautiful winder...love it! (update written on 9/20/2010)

The quality of this product is great. The wood appears similar to much higher priced watch turners I found. My only complaint is the item described and pictured next to this review is not the winder that I received. The one that I got
holds 4 watches, so it's twice the size as the one I ordered. Also, there was not any instructions in the package about how to return/ exchange an item and it was for a gift so didn't have enough time. I do realize that I got a more expensive item, but it is really too large for my needs.
